Feature Project
8 foot tall tree
Wood
A combination of pipe, tubing, and solid steel welded together. An oxy-acetylene torch was used to heat the metal enough to bend each branch to achieve a natural appearance
Leaves
Each leaf is hand cut from 20 gauge copper sheet and brazed onto a piece of 1/8" round steel, which in turn is tig welded in place.
Bark
Using MIG welding, the bark is created by running "cold" beads vertically along the entire surface of the tree in a random pattern
Base and Finish
The base is a 24" circle cut from 1/4" steel plate on a CNC plasma table. Rebar stakes driven through holes in the base secure it in it's final destination.
This tree was left with a raw metal finish with the intention of a natural patina occurring over time. The steel components will rust turning them a brownish-orange, and the copper will first darken, then turn a greenish-blue.
Feature Project
Elk Skull
The 2 dimensional skull itself was cut out using a CNC plasma table from a reference picture my client provided. After some slight modification to the original design and turning the jpeg into the proper file type for the CNC, it was ready to go. The antlers are made from a combination of wire welding and solid round bar.
